The dot SE country-specific domain was started in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were grabbed. Individuals were allowed to reserve solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was mandatory, i.e. only Swedish persons, companies and organizations could purchase a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized considerably and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been increasing each year.
